You may think it is restricting and uncaring to provide a leash for your puppy and later on your dog, but it is actually an extremely important safety feature not only for your dog, but for people as well. Many people in the world do not really like dogs. Most often, it is a bad experience and therefore leash laws have been in effect in most states or cities. You will find that it can be illegal if you do not have your dog on a leash. In order to make your dog comfortable with a leash you need to train them as puppies to deal with the collars and leashes that are required. You want to choose a collar that will not feel physically restricting, but provide you with a system to rein them in when need be.
A leash will help you train your dog and puppy to learn commands as well. They will learn when you want them to pause, slow down, or stop with a leash. It is also a way to keep him safe. Your dog will not always sense danger. They may just run after a ball without realizing a car is coming since they do not usually look both ways. Having a leash can help you keep them from harms way and condition them to your needs. You will find there are some breeds of dogs with abilities to lead humans. Some dogs help humans get around on a daily basis and watch out for people. This means that other dogs as they are intelligent can learn commands while on a leash.
Choices of a Leash
You will have plenty of choices in leashes, but the question remains, what is best for you and your dog? You will find that sometimes the leash you purchase is a result of your budget at the moment. This can mean you choose a leash that does not extend further, in other words it is not retractable. You may find that a retractable leash is in your budget. The point is you have to be certain your dog will be comfortable and you will be comfortable, with not only the price, but also the actual feel of the leash.
The Flexi-lead is one of the most popular leashes available for dogs and puppies because it gives the owner more room to work with the dog. In other words, they can go off and have a little fun away from you, but you can still rein them in when it is needed.
If you go with a retractable leash you will want to make sure you are very cautious on the lead you give them, and that you do not snap the leash back uncontrollably. It can be very easy for the dog to get tangled around things when they are allowed to go so far ahead of you that you cannot get the leash back without harming them. You should always keep your dog in sight.
